The government of Iraq recently placed an order with India’s Exim Corporation (ISEC) for the purchase of 26,250 tons of sugar under the United Nations (UN)' Oil for Food Program, reported AsiaPulse. A shipment of 13,125 tons of sugar has already left India with the rest to arrive in Iraq by June.
Iraq has been under a strict UN embargo since its 1990 invasion of Kuwait. The oil-for-food program, which has been in place since 1996 and allows embargo-hit Iraq to sell oil and buy food, medicine and other essentials for its 22 million people. — (menareport.com)
