Foreign organizations in Iraq will have to pay up to $12,000 for an annual Internet subscription, the weekly Al-Iqtissadi reported Sunday. Foreign businesses and embassies will each pay between $3,000 and $12,000 a year, and Iraqi offices and private enterprises will be charged between $2,500 and $8,000 under the tariffs set by the ministry of transport and communications.
Transport and communications minister, Ahmed Murtada, announced a plan Tuesday "to allow private registered companies, universities, trade unions, large organizations and diplomatic representations in Iraq access to the Internet."
Speaking at the opening of a third Internet center for the public in Baghdad, he said similar centers would be established in the provinces. — (AFP-Baghdad)
