Iran's gas refining capacity will hit 576 million cubic meters/day in five years from 383 cm/d in 2004 and 129 million cm/d in 1996, said a senior Iranian official in charge of gas affairs.
Director of the Operations Affairs Department at National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Abdolhossein Samari said that the share of natural gas in Iran's energy basket will also go up to 68 percent in next five years from 57 percent in 2004 and 38 percent in 1996.
According to Irna, Samari said his department has undertaken a series of project for development of Iran's gas sector, including Ilam refinery with 6,800,000 cm/d capacity and Masjed Soleyman refinery with one million cm/d capacity, that will come on stream by March 20, marking end of the present Iranian calendar year of 1384.
He said Parsian gas refinery will also be operational by March to run with 50 percent nominal production capacity and executive operations are underway on Bidboland-2 refinery, while Goshuy-Jonoubi refinery is under feasibility study at his department.
According to Samari, up to 253 million cm/d natural gas will be offered to the country's petrochemical facilities by next 11 years. Samari said the figure will stand at 5,340,000 cm/d in next five years.
