Recent reports disclose that the state-owned Iranian Shipping Company (IRSL) is planning to soon open an office in Dubai. Another office was recently opened in Hamburg, while a Singapore branch is expected to begin operations in the near future.
These expansion moves are part of the company’s recently launched promotion campaign, reports Gulf News. IRSL runs a container service once a week from Germany to the Persian Gulf. The company’s cargo volume has risen by nearly 20 percent as a result.
IRSL’s operates 82 vessels with transportation capacity standing at 2,420,000 tons. The life span of these ships is estimated at an average 17.5 years. Currently, about 40 ships are over 20 years old; the company plans to retire nine ageing ships every year. ― (MENA Report)
