The Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) on Tuesday passed a bill that would give Irancell the license to open the first mobile telephone network in the country.
The Iranian parliament on Sunday approved the general outlines of a bill to sharply cut telecom major Turkcell's shares in an earlier multi-billion-dollar Iranian contract.
According to the bill, which could force the Turkish company to bow out of the deal, Irancell`s share in the contract to set up the country`s first mobile telephone network will be raised to 51 percent with the rest going to the foreign party, according to <i>IRNA</i> news agency.
According to the bill, the ministry of communication and information technology will be authorized to enforce the terms of the deal concluded with Irancell in consonance with the objectives of Article 124 of the Third Economic, Social and Cultural Development Plan (March 2000-March 2005) and its pertinent rules and regulations.
