A tourism memorandum was signed by Iran and South Korea at a recent meeting in Tehran. The two countries discussed various means of boosting tourism between them, reported IRNA.
The meeting was attended by Mohammad Moezzeddin, head of ITTO (the Iranian Travel and Tourism Organization), and Lee Sang Chul, the new South Korean Ambassador to Iran.
As a way to achieve this goal, it was decided to increase flights to and from each nation. In addition, ITTO stated that they were interested in providing specialized tours of Iran for Korean travelers. At the meetings, mention was made of Iran’s famous Silk Road, as well as points of interest in South Korea.
Last year, 5.5 million South Korean citizens left their country to travel on holiday. Nearly five million foreign tourists visited South Korea, resulting in profits of more than $6.6 billion.
Iran, also, has experienced a notable increase in the number of tourists arriving to its borders this year. As of May, tourism activity expanded by about 14 percent compared to the corresponding period of last year. This translates into nearly 1.3 million people. –(MENA Report)
