Iran: New oil, gas fields discovered

New oil and gas fields have been discovered in Iran, Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said in Tehran on Tuesday.


Speaking to reporters, the minister said that the oil field belongs solely to Iran while the gas field is to be shared with another country, IRNA reported.


The oil minister said the new oil and gas fields were found in the southern province of Khuzestan and south of the South Pars gas field in Bushehr province respectively. According to him, the new oil field was located 40 km northeast of the provincial capital of Ahvaz in Khuzestan province with an estimated capacity of 5,700 million barrels of oil.

As for the newly discovered gas field, Zanganeh said that it is situated east of the South Pars gas field near the Belal oil field in the southern Bushehr province. He added that the field was discovered during the drilling operation of a 3,430-meter well in Bushehr. The field's capacity was estimated at 168 billion cubic meters of gas and 183 million barrels of gas condensate, said the minister.
