Some 4,562 tons of pistachios were exported from the Iranian region of Kerman during the last Iranian month spanning from April 21 to May 21, reported the Republic’s Institute of Standards and Industrial Research. Exported to 30 European and Asian countries, last month’s shipment was valued at 112 billion Iranian riyals ($14 million).

Iran cultivates more than 50 varieties of pistachio and an uncountable number of wild ones. The Kerman pistachio variety is known for its large nuts and widely split shells. Iran produces some 200,000 tons of pistachios each year. Carpets and pistachios are the Republic’s main non-oil export products. — (menareport.com)
