During the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-July 21, 2004), Iran’s agricultural products export amounted to $361.3 million, half of which were pistachio exports.
ISNA quoted Public Relations Dept. of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) as saying that during the said months, the total exports of agricultural products showed 10.3 percent increase in value but posted 15.6 percent decrease in weight, hitting 232,800 tons.
During the said period, $178.8 million worth of pistachio weighing 41,300 tons was exported, say an 11.6 percent and 5.9 percent rise in terms of weight and value respectively, compared to the corresponding period last year.
Pistachio made up 9.6 percent of the country’s total non-oil exports during the said period, MNA reported.
Skin and salampore, saffron, raisins, and intestine exports brought in $28, $26.5, $25.1, and $16.2 million respectively.
Caviar export made a record of 224 percent increase while export of fresh and dried date went down by 9.4 percent against figures of last year. (menareport.com)
