The Iranian oil authorities announced August 14 the discovery of a new on-shore gas field with recoverable reserves of about 133.1 billion cubic meters (4.7 trillion cubic feet) of sweet gas and about 58 million barrels of liquid gas.
The field, called Homa, is located in a mountainous region south of Fars province, said Mohammad Mohaddes, director of exploration at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).
Homa is close to three other onshore sweet gas fields, including Tabnak, which has estimated reserves of 445 billion cubic meters (15.7 trillion cubic feet). The other two are Shanoul and Varavi.
Homa has standing reserves of about 6.7 trillion cubic feet (189.7 billion cubic meters) and 82 million barrels of liquid gas, but said only 70 percent of each is recoverable.
The gas layer in Homa is 650 meters thick and the field measures 40 km by 5.5 km. It has a production capacity of 14.16 million cubic meters of gas per day. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
