Employees and agents of Iran's state airline Iran Air are facing trial over the smuggling of electronic goods worth some $40 million, national television reported Wednesday, July 4.
It said an unspecified number of defendants, employed at Tehran airport, would soon come before the courts. The report said that the electronic equipment was smuggled out of the airport aboard minibuses used to transport passengers.
Meanwhile a court source said a businessman, Fereydoun Pezeshk, a former senior official of Iran Air's maintenance and engineering department, had been jailed with four other people pending trial on charges of selling technical information on the airline to companies in Belgium, Canada, France and Switzerland. ― (AFP, Tehran)
