Internet Pictures Corporation (iPIX), a new firm developing internet photo technology, commenced operations in Dubai this week. Emirates Venture Group, a Dubai based company announced the company’s launch in the region. iPIX will provide imaging solutions, bringing immersive imaging and content management technology to the Middle East.
iPIX software takes two 185° images, seams them together, automatically compensates for any minor error in camera placement and corrects the distortion inherent in these photographs. Applications for iPIX include virtual tours which help real estate agents sell properties online, to security and observation.
The resulting immersive image can be viewed in any direction, up-down, left-right, and horizon to horizon. The viewer can navigate the image by moving a cursor inside the image or using the iPIX navigation bar. This technology allows for example, for a 360 degree online tours of different sites
“iPIX ME has plans to develop Dubai as a major research and development center for iPIX applications and technology,” said Wadi Ahmed, Group Marketing Director of Emirate Venture Group. “I believe one day in the not so distant future Dubai might become the Global post production centre of iPIX movies.”
