Tunisia’s President Ben Ali has announced a series of measures aimed at encouraging the country’s private sector to increase its involvement in e-commerce and new information technologies.
The measures announced include an increase in the size of grants allocated to business enterprises from the Export Promotion Fund for purposes of advertising and promotion on the Internet. The grants can also be used to finance up to 50 percent of the cost of producing a company website.
Enterprises will be permitted to host their sites by themselves, so that they can update data on a constant basis. A mechanism will be created to enable the efficient evaluation of websites. A reduction on the fees charged for data transfer, and for the lines and digital network reserved for integrated services.
Another measure would be the organization of trade seminars at institutions of higher education on subjects related to the Internet and e-commerce, and the creation of technical centers throughout the country, providing a greater number of enterprises with Internet access. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
