A humanitarian aid package from the International Red Cross destined for Afghan refugees has arrived in Iran's northeastern Khorassan province, on the border with Afghanistan, state television confirmed on Tuesday October 16.
The aid, which came from Norway comprises 67 tons of food products, medication as well as medical equipment, and arrived in the holy city of Mashhad late Monday, television said.
Regional countries as well as humanitarian organizations have multiplied their aid packages in recent days for Afghans seeking refuge on Iran's northeastern and southeastern borders with Afghanistan.
Iran has a border stretching some 900 kilometers (560 miles) with Afghanistan and has taken in around two million Afghans since 1979, but has closed its borders to Afghan refugees since the September 11 attacks in the United States. — (AFP, Tehran)
