ALBAWABA - Artifact, the news app created by Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, is set to shut down within a year of its launch.

In a surprising move, Kevin Systrom revealed that the app's essential news-reading features would remain accessible until the end of February, after which commenting and publishing functions would be disabled.

Recognized for its innovative artificial intelligence features and interactive commenting system reminiscent of Reddit, Artifact garnered praise from the journalistic community and gained prominence on both Apple and Google's app stores.

Despite a year-long effort, it appears that Systrom and Krieger encountered challenges similar to those faced by other news app founders. Systrom acknowledged, 'We developed something beloved by a core user group, but we concluded that the market opportunity wasn't significant enough to justify continued investment.'

As a result, the decision has been made to discontinue the app. While Instagram has successfully incorporated features from various platforms, such as TikTok-inspired Reels, the same adaptability does not seem to apply to the news app in this instance.
