Fairs and Exhibitions, organizers of the PackTech/PrinTech/PlasTech 2000

international packaging, printing and plastics technology exhibition,

appointed a committed sales agent to market the event in the rapidly

developing Indian market. The agreement was struck with Mumbai's Int. Trade

Fairs & Expositions (ITFE), a Dubai World Trade Centre press report

disclosed.

Companies from 14 countries have indicated their intentions to participate

in PackTech/PrinTech/PlasTech 2000, which will be held at the Dubai World

Trade Centre from September 17-20 of 2000. The exhibitors will consist of

pavilions from companies from France, Italy, Taiwan, Belgium, Iran as well

as first-time participants Latvia, Japan and Spain.

"The packaging and printing industries within India have mushroomed

over the past decade as the country moved from an import-dominated economy

to a major global exporter," Clive Richardson, Chief Executive, Fairs and

Exhibitions, told albawaba.com.

"The country now has acknowledged expertise in systems packing, package

conversion, packaging operations, ancillary equipment testing and quality

control equipment and is ready to export its technology and know-how. The

Gulf market because of its close proximity is an obvious priority target for

Indian companies and PackTech/PrinTech/PlasTech the event to launch these

export hopes" he added.

"In the field of plastics, various Indian raw materials manufacturers are

already working towards developing bio-degradable plastic, which once in

commercial production will go some way to solving plastic's negative

environmental status," Mr. Richardson commented.

Three Indian companies have already signaled their involvement in the show,

according to ITFE's Ashok Neelkant. "If prospects are translated into space

bookings, Indian participants could well look at joining together in a

country pavilion," he added.

Organizers expect PackTech/PrinTech/PlasTech 2000 to be at least one third

larger than the 1999 event, which featured more than 70 companies from 14

countries. Approximately 5,300 trade visitors from 52 countries attended the

show in 1999. Sixty-one percent of buyers at the 1999 show came from the

Middle East. Over 200 key visitors from the Iranian Packaging and Printing

Industry visited last year's showcase, in a delegation lead by Iran's

Co-operative Council For Lithography and the Iranian printing magazine

Sanat-e-Chap.

Industry sources predict an ongoing 15% annual growth for the Middle

East's thriving printing and packaging industries, with plastics advancing

at a similar pace. - albawaba.com
