The Municipality of Greater Amman has awarded India’s Larsen and Toubro (L&T) a $15.4 million contract to build a cable stay bridge in the Jordanian capital. Work on the project is to commence on December 15 and has a target date of completion set for early 2005, reported PTI.
L&T wil construct the 425-meter long bridge with its local partner Arab Technical Cooperation Company of Amman. Cable stay bridges are a cost-efficient way to build a strong bridge over strong waters. The structure consists of poles firmly planted in the water, extending through the main deck way into the open air. The rods are then connected to the bridge with cables.
L&T is India's largest engineering and construction conglomerate with additional interests in information technology (IT) and cement. The company recently won two engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts to revamp the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC)’s to Sulphur Recovery Units at their refineries in Shuaiba and Mina Abdullah. — (menareport.com)
