The International Monetary Fund said reconstruction of the Gaza Strip is going "far more slowly than expected" Wednesday, as donor countries have pledged money to see the territory rebuilt after last summer's 50-day war with Israel.
The IMF said a quarter of the $3.5 billion that was donated has been disbursed. Countries pledged the money at a conference in Cairo following the brutal conflict between Israel and Hamas, the governing authority in Gaza.
The war was devastating for Gaza, having killed more than 2,200 Palestinians, including hundreds of civilians, compared with 66 IDF soldiers and six Israeli civilians, according to the UN.
An estimated 100,000 Palestinians were displaced after the war that destroyed 18,000 homes.
