The Saudi National Chemical Fertilizers Company (Ibn Al-Baytar), one of the subsidiaries of the Saudi SABIC Group, is planning to raise its ammonia production capacity by 16.6 percent, in an effort to reach an output level of 583,000 metric tons by 2002, according to a report in Al-Watan newspaper.
Four months ago, the Ibn Al-Baytar Company signed a contract with the Japanese Toyo Engineering Corporation to provide the necessary machinery and equipment required to enlarge its ammonia output.
Ibn Al-Baytar is a 50-50 joint venture between SABIC and its affiliate, SAFCO. Its ammonia plant came on stream in 1987 and it began production of granular urea, and compound and phosphate fertilizers in 1990.
In addition, the Saudi Fertilizers Company (Safco) has recently opened a new ammonia and urea-manufacturing project in the Jubail Industrial Zone. The new factory produces 500,000 metric tons of ammonia and 600,000 metric tons of urea per annum. ¯(Albawaba-MEBG)
