Director of the Dubai Humanitarian City Saeed Bin Suloom recently announced that the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) will join the Dubai Humanitarian City, located in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
UNHRD is an independent unit of the Humanitarian Response Network and is situated in Brindisi, Italy. The organization is responsible for storing buffer stocks of food, life support equipment, logistical items, such as vehicles and mobile warehouses, medicines and other humanitarian tools necessary in emergency humanitarian operations.
UNHRD stocks belong to a number of UN agencies and non-government organizations, and are managed by a single agency, which also organizes storage and dispatch of relief goods to emergency locations.
The Dubai Humanitarian City, which was launched in September 2003, aims to host international organizations that work in the fields of food, agriculture, health, women and children, education and humanitarian services. — (menareport.com)
