HP has signed a major contract with the Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia to equip all elementary and high school computer laboratories, stated a press release.
As a result, HP, together with its local partner Jeraisy, will deploy, implement and manage a complete HP solution to 845 schools throughout the Kingdom. This is the first major contract for HP's local assembly plant, which recently opened in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
HP will be deploying more than 17,000 HP Compaq D230 PCs as well as a large number of printers and scanners. The project was won against strong competition from two other multinational vendors. Implementation will begin immediately and will be completed within six months.
The project is part of a major initiative by the authorities in Saudi Arabia to ensure that all school children have access to and are trained to use the latest technology.
HP in the Middle East employs about 500 people. The company has been present in the region since 1968 and opened its first regional office in 1994 and has offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah and Khobar, Cairo and Ramallah servicing the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Levant and Egypt. — (menareport.com)
