In the beginning
From a one-station police force with 29 members to a 15, 000 people strong vital organisation, Dubai Police has grown into one of the most successful units in the region. Dubai Police launched its Electronic Services Department (ESD) in 2001 as part of the authority’s efforts to better serve the residents of Dubai. In the programme initiated by Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, ESD was developed to centralise and manage the myriad independent IT Systems operating in each of the police departments.
Through the online services, Dubai Police are aiming to be able to deliver real time services to residents in the city. Through the website, residents will be able to gain information for vehicle licensing, to view and pay for traffic violations as well as apply for driving tests online.
Dubai Police required a stable IT infrastucture that could support all of its departments including the Traffic Department and CID. Dubai Police tested the latest HP IT products and solutions and signed an agreement in 2003 with HP, where HP provides all its departments with high end business desktops, enterprise soltuions and servers.
HP Solutions and Services for Dubai Police
The latest HP solutions aim to reduce total cost ownership for Dubai Police, ensuring longer product lifecycle and decreased downtime. HP also provides multi service centres offering a high level of support at all times to ensure a constant, stable IT infrastructure.
“HP continually strives to provide the latest high-end IT solutions that best meet the needs of Dubai Police. This is an exciting time for HP as we launch the new HP Lab and work on new projects with Dubai Police to provide further automated solutions over the coming months,” said Anil Gandhi, General Manager, PSG, HP Middle East.
HP Lab at Dubai Police
As a testament to the strong relationship between HP Middle East and Dubai Police, HP renovated one of the most important conference and meeting rooms at the Dubai Police headquarters, where VIP meetings at Dubai Police and computer training sessions are held.
The aim of the room, named the HP Lab, is to provide Dubai Police with high end technology, including the latest business desktops, which can enable them to maximise their meetings and provide a relaxed and productive meeting environment.
HP provided Dubai Police with around 600 desktops fitted with the latest technology in addition to a high level of security and manageability so that Dubai Police can deliver its services with high level of efficiency across multiple sites.
The solutions provided by HP, ranging from desktops to servers and enterprise services, ensure the best-in- class security, manageability and reliability. They also help in increasing the productivity of services at a low cost as it reduces the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
The HP Lab was officially opened on 21st February 2007 by Brigadier Dr. Jamal Mohammad Al Merri, Acting Chief of Dubai Police and attended by Colonel Ahmad Hamdan Bin Dalmouk, Director of General Department of Electronic Services, Dubai Police Headquarters. Anil Gandhi, General Manager, PSG, HP Middle East and Mazen Dohaji, Sales Manager at HP Middle East also attended to celebrate the launch with Dubai Police.
Colonel Ahmad Hamdan Bin Dalmouk, Director of General Department of Electronic Services, Dubai Police Headquarters, said: “We chose HP amongst other IT vendors for their reliable, proven technology and the ability to provide a vast of tailored solutions which meet our business needs. We are delighted with the new HP Lab as it provides us with the latest technology in a sophisticated-designed room.”
