Sometimes we get stuck in a really boring job. If you’re in one of these jobs that kill your soul softly; here are a few tips to help you deal with it:
1. Do things differently. Your brain needs stimulus. Try doing your tasks in a new way, whether by changing when to do a certain task, where or with whom, changing how you do something might change your perspective and lead to new discoveries related to your work.
2. Set an agenda. Be more strategic about your working day. Doing things spontaneously might be the reason why you feel bored and under-achieving. Write down clear and measurable goals for each day, week and month as well as the steps you’re going to take to reach them.
3. Work from home. Changing your work environment can be refreshing to your spirits. If you work in the creative field, ie as a writer or designer or any other field in which you need to be inspired in order to work, changing the setting is actually important. Read “Need a flexible work schedule? These tips can help you” for tips on persuading your boss to make you work from home.
4.Change your scope of work. If you’re bored because you’ve been handling the same tedious tasks since forever, ask your boss if you can change the kind of work you currently do by adding more tasks or replacing some of them with more exciting ones. Whether you’re overworked and overwhelmed, or completely unchallenged, your boss will respect your desire to master something new.
5.Help out. Lending a hand to your coworkers can refresh your outlook on your work by involving new people. On upcoming projects that interest you, ask colleagues if you can lend a hand.
6. Visualize. Think of what you do differently by visualizing your thoughts. You can draw diagrams with the main topic or theme in the middle of a piece of paper, circle it and put little lines around the circle. At the end of each line, write the ideas or tasks that relate to the central theme.
7. Learn new things. Learning does not only breath fresh air into your daily routine, but it also helps you look at your work differently as well as add to your pool of skills. Sign up for an online or off line course and read more about your field. You can also pursue a higher degree in a new field or specialize in a particular sub-field.
8. Socialize! And I don’t mean with people you already know. Find people who are fun to talk to and share some of your interests outside of your work. You will probably find temps, interns or new employees more interesting than those who have been working in your company for years.
Often, all you need to enjoy your work again is to change your mindset. Re-evaluate your work situation, can these tips help you or are you really fed up with your current job? Read about how to look for a new job without losing your current one.
