The cost of living in Qatar moved up by a record 8.8 per cent in 2005 fuelled by rising house and commercial property rents. According to figures released by the Planning Council, rents and fuel prices went up by 26.3 per cent in 2005, while the second largest increase was reported in the prices of home furniture and furnishings. These statistics, both for rent and home furniture, indicate growing demand for housing due to rising influx of foreign workers.
