The proposal to establish an exclusive Expatriate City in Doha has received mixed reactions from the Qataris as well as the expatriate communities. Welcoming the initiative, which aims at accommodating 300,000 expatriate families, majority hoped that it would be a respite for the low income families who are struggling to cope with the spiraling room rents.

According to the Peninsula, a recent survey has indicated that 80 per cent of the people is of the view that the proposed city would help in bringing down the skyrocketing rents.
