Gulf Total Tractebel Power Company, established in September 2000, by the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) and the consortium of Total Fina Elf S.A. and Tractebel S.A. announced plans to acquire, upgrade and operate the Taweelah A1 Generation and Desalination Project in Abu Dhabi.

The new systems implemented have greatly increased the company's financial decision-making capabilities while lowering its accounting costs by deploying a business management Software Solution from Microsoft Business Solution, implemented by one of its UAE-bases Partners, Mideast Date Systems (MDS), according to a company press release.

The project, one of the first steps in the privatization of Abu Dhabi's power and water industry and an important part of the government's strategy to achieve the objectives of Abu Dhabi's overall privatization initiative, acts as a model for the privatization of other assets within Abu Dhabi's power and water sector and, more generally, for privatization within the UAE and Gulf region.

The fundamental objectives of the project can be seen as: ensuring the security of water and power supply; improving economic efficiency and service levels; promoting both local and foreign private sector investment and participation; creating employment and training opportunities for UAE nationals; and maximizing revenues from asset sales.

The challenge for the newly assigned private management team has been nothing short of a complete overhaul of both the physical plant and managerial processes. “From the earliest days of the company, the management team at Gulf Total Tractebel Power Company took the decision that we would seek the advice of expert auditors on what enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to implement; they recommended that we go with Microsoft Business Solutions,” said Pino Bellavia, Abu Dhabi-based chief financial officer, Gulf Total Tractebel Power Company. — (menareport.com)
