Qatar’s Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) employed Gulf Business Machines (GBM) to fulfill key requirements in updating its IT infrastructure.
In total, three contracts have been awarded to GBM: upgrading the core network, installing new servers and implementing a storage consolidation and back-up solution. When completed, the upgrade will address every aspect of HMC's current IT demands.
HMC's Health Information System (HIS) needs to be totally automated in order to streamline internal processes and maximize the efficiency and delivery of healthcare to its patients.
For the core network GBM will be migrating HMC's entire network from the existing ATM network to an Ethernet Gigabit network based on industry-leading Ethernet technology from Cisco Systems.
The second contract will see GBM installing new servers that will upgrade the hardware infrastructure, allowing a greater volume of complex information to be processed. A total of six new Unix based servers will increase the availability, scalability and reliability of the entire HIS at HMC. Two Enterprise Level servers will run HMC's Database application and four Mid-range Servers will run the HIS applications.
To complete the advances of the systems, the third contract will see the implementation of the new storage and back-up system. This will ensure all HMC's information is highly resilient against technical problems or attacks.
With three main hospitals and 23 health centers distributed around Qatar, it is essential that a completely integrated solution be installed at HMC. The new technology will allow an enhanced level of communication between the hospitals and health centers, while increasing the security of that information. — (menareport.com)
