The Dubai World Trade Center, organizers of Gitex Dubai, have announced that they are offering complimentary space to Palestinian information technology (IT) companies participating in Gitex 2002 under the umbrella of the Palestine IT Association of Companies (PITA). The exhibition, to be held October 13-17 at the Dubai International Exhibition Center, is the largest and most important IT event in the Middle East.

“The Palestinian Pavilion made its debut at Gitex 2001. Last year eight companies attended and we hope that figure will grow this year. This exhibition we will provide Palestine’s IT players with 100 square meters of space to help them make links with new potential markets and build on their current strengths. We are delighted to do our part to help facilitate their participation,” said the Assistant General Manager of the Dubai World Trade Center, Ibrahim Al Hashemi.

Palestinian industry sources said that since 1998 the country’s IT sector has been expanding at an estimated 25-30 per cent annually and there are many firms seeking to broaden their market presence.

PITA is a membership-based private sector organization established in 1998 in Ramallah, Palestine that is registered with the Palestinian Ministry of Economy and Trade. It represents some 63 IT companies including software developers, hardware distributors, systems integrators, telecommunication companies, office equipment and automation vendors, Internet service providers, and IT consultants and trainers.

In 2001, eight Palestinian firms had a presence at Gitex, including NourSoft, and participants said they were delighted with the opportunity the exhibition offered, to expand their market options. — (menareport.com)
