The US-based General Motors corporation reported a spectacular sales gain in the Middle East in 2000, with sales of motor cars rising 50 percent, when compared to the figure recorded in 1999, to stand at 42,000. According to the corporation, this made 2000 GM’s most successful year in the Middle East since 1993.

GM said the increased sales were most probably a result of recent model launches and the implementation of new customer service program, which included a $100 million investment by GM retailers in improved premises.

Among the particular model types, the Chevrolet Caprice sold 10,500 cars, the Chevrolet Lumina 8,700 cars, the GMC and Chevrolet Suburbans 7,800 cars, the Yukon 2,600 cars and the German-made Opel range sold 2,775 cars. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
