It is worth noting that frequent power cuts in recent years outraged Iranians, particularly during the hot summer months. In response, the government reduced workers' hours by half to save energy.

Iran and Western oil sanctions

Iran faced years of Western sanctions that severely impacted its economy.

According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), Iran was the world’s seventh-largest producer of crude oil in 2022 and had the third-largest reserves after Venezuela and Saudi Arabia.
