French Company Areva recently won two turnkey contracts with Algerian utility Sonelgaz valued at €32 million. The contracts are part of the country's on-going electrical network improvement program.

Areva’s Transmission and Distribution division (T&D) will be handling the projects, which are the latest two of four awarded to T&D in Algeria in the past 18 months, according to a press release.

Under the scope of the first contract, T&D will entirely refurbish the El Aouinet and Ramdane Djamel high-voltage substations located in the eastern part of the country, and install and commission new 220kV air-insulated and 90kV and 60kV gas-insulated switchgear. Services and equipment provided will also include complete turnkey engineering, monitoring systems, protection relays and digital control systems.

Under the second contract, T&D will supply local dispatching centers, based on the e-terracontrol software system, and remote terminal units for substations situated in the Algiers, Oran, Annaba and Setif coastal districts. In addition, T&D will provide power line carrier devices, teleprotection devices and line matching units. — (menareport.com)
