Statistics recently published in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper revealed that only four percent of the women in the Arab World use the Internet and e-mail services, compared to 38 percent in Brazil and 50 percent in the USA.
Several factors are responsible for this low rate of Internet use amongst the Arab women ¯ inadequate financial capabilities, lack of skills required in using new electronic devices, inadequate knowledge of the English language and the western culture which characterizes most of the available content on the Internet. In addition, the region generally lacks the infrastructure required for connecting these women to Internet services. ¯ (Albawaba-MEBG)
