Former senior Northern Ireland policeman to lead Iraq training program

A former senior Northern Ireland policeman is to head the European Union's training program for Iraqi security forces, it was revealed on Wednesday. Stephen White, 50, will lead a program to train 770 Iraqi police, prosecutors and prison officers.

 

The former Assistant Chief Constable of Police has been helping rebuild policing in the country for the last two years.

 

He will head the EU Integrated Rule of Law Mission for Iraq (EUJUST LEX).

 

According to <i>KUNA</I>, the mission aims at addressing needs in the Iraqi criminal justice system by training high and mid-level officials in senior management and criminal investigation. Costing 10 million euros the initiative is to start this July and last for at least a year.
