A fire along the Iraqi-Turkish pipeline last week was ignited by saboteurs, reported the US military. Two people have been arrested for the explosion that triggered the blaze in the northern Iraqi town of Bayji.
"South of Kirkuk, a suspected Fedayeen member and his bodyguard were arrested on suspicion of sabotaging the pipeline last week," revealed spokeswoman for the US Army's 4th Infantry Division, Major Josslyn Aberle to Reuters. The saboteurs are allegedly guerrillas loyal to former leader Saddam Hussein.
Iraqi oil exports to Turkey were halted on Friday August 17, 2003 when saboteurs blew up a main pipeline in northern Iraq. The explosion ruptured a portion of the pipeline buried three feet underground and ignited a fire that was eventually contained on Saturday afternoon. — (menareport.com)
