Female presence in UAE business sector increases five fold

There were 3,223 businesswomen engaged in commercial activity in 2002 in Dubai, a five-fold increase in the last decade. Some 1,325 were doing business in Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain, which constitutes a four-fold increase, revealed official statistics 

 

The total invested capital in businesses run by women is estimated to be around 12.4 billion Emirati dirhams ($3.3 billion), with the bulk of capital invested in trade and maintenance, financial brokerage, real estate and rental, manufacturing and industries, restaurants and hotels and building and construction. 

 

The figures for women professionals in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) business sector cut across all nationalities. Statistics show that 55 percent of businesswomen in Dubai are UAE nationals, followed by Indians, Lebanese, Egyptians, Moroccans and Ethiopians. Of these, around 40.5 percent are owners, 48.1 percent partners and 11.45 percent managing partners. Activity-wise, around 48 percent are engaged in trade, 42 percent in vocational activities, 9.6 percent in professional services and 0.3 percent in industrial businesses. — (menareport.com)
