Jordanian GSM operator Fastlink has over the space of 12 months doubled its subscriber base and its infrastructure capabilities in terms of network capacity and technology deployment, according to a company press release. In 2001, the company’s base rose from 280,000 subscribers to 680,000 subscribers at the end of the year 2001.
Fastlink commenced the year with just two mobile switching centers and around 300 cell sites. Today, it boasts six switches, two transit switches, and more than 800 cell sites. The company has also allocated funds, totaling $110 million, to incrementally increase the network’s capacity from the current 750 thousand subscribers to 1.2 million subscribers by mid 2002.
Fastlink was launched in 1995 as a private shareholding company operating the first GSM cellular network in the Kingdom. The network is currently the largest mobile phone provider in the country. — (menareport.com)
