Growth in GCC financing requirements forces banks to look for ways to expand their capital base, bankers were told Wednesday. According to expert, Nizar Al Bassam, total value of cross border loans issued in 2005 was 200 per cent up compared to 2004.
"This is only cross border loans and doesn't include locally issued loans. This could potentially put a strain on local banks' capital base, despite excess liquidity," he said in Bahrain, according to the GDN.
