Saudi Arabia's second mobile phone provider plans to offer GSM services in major cities by the end of next month or early April, company officials said.
The announcement was made by Mohammad Omran, acting executive president of the UAE-based Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat).
An Etisalat-led consortium recently became Saudi Arabia's second mobile phone provider after winning a licence. The company will publicise its call charges immediately upon launching the service, Omran said.
The consortium has also hired about 600 Saudi youths after they applied for jobs, Omran said. "The company will appoint several Saudi women to work at its telecommunications service centre in Jeddah," he said.
The company, which will provide third generation mobile service, has plans to provide one million mobile lines within six months of its launch.
