The Emirates telecommunication corporation, Etisalat, has recently been bombarded by numerous complaints coming from its local subscribers, reported Al-Ittihad daily.
Subscribers criticized the services offered by the company as well as the high prices they were required to pay. They claimed that mobile phone services are inadequate, as calls are often disconnected and unclear voice messages are received in certain regions of the country.
Etisalat customers protested the high prices charged, and called for the termination of the monopoly imposed by the corporation. According to the report, the complaining costumers added that Etisalat has never responded to their repeated complaints.
Etisalat is the largest telecommunication company, in terms of market value, operating in the Arab world. In 1999, its value reached $8.6 billion. According to a recent report published in the Emirates, this company will allocate $1.66 billion towards the improvement and broadening of its services, by the end of 2001. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
