The Emirates Telecommunication Corporation (Etisalat) and Microsoft will work closely together to deliver a mobile solution utilizing GPRS technology based on the Microsoft Information Server (MIS) package with a view to a commercial launch in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by the end of the year.

This solution from Etisalat will offer a scalable and manageable wireless access platform that mobile-enables existing infrastructure. This will facilitate increased corporate mobility by linking employees wirelessly and securely to their Microsoft Exchange 2000 and other messaging systems. Employees can access inbox, calendar, contacts and tasks through their mobile device such as the recently launched Pocket PC Phone Edition.

As a network operator Etisalat has deployed Mobile Information Server 2002 – Carrier Edition in its Data Center to securely link mobile devices connected to corporate networks and push SMS alert notification of important events or e-mail messages to mobile devices.

Online security is to be provided by Etisalat's e-commerce solutions provider, Comtrust. Digital certificates will verify caller identification with the server and highest-level encryption will ensure the security of data downloaded from the network.

Etisalat is a provider of advanced communication solutions, offering multimedia and value added services in fixed line and GSM, Internet services and e-commerce solutions. It's divisions and subsidiaries include Smart cards and related solutions, Data Clearing House, Contact Center, Submarine cable laying and maintenance services, several international submarine cable links, an international Internet exchange, Academy and College and Cable. — (menareport.com)
