Energy consumption in Morocco up

Energy consumption in Morocco increased from 10.518 Mtoe in 2002 to 10.961 Mtoe in 2003, i.e. a 4% increase, said the Moroccan federation of energy in its latest newsletter. 

 

Energy dependency rate shrunk to 95.6% against 96.9% in 2002, and the share of oil products in this consumption has also dropped slightly, the same source confirmed. 

 

Concerning the electricity sector, the newsletter said the “net energy” amounted to 16.779 Gw/h, i.e. a 8% increase. Thermal productionwent up from 13.067 Gw/h in 2002 to 13.696 Gw/h in 2003, which makes a 5 pc rise. 

 

Hydraulic production of electricity went up by 71%, the federation said, adding that importations, mainly coming from Spain, reached 1.438 Gw/h (+3%).  

 

Consumption of oil products also went up by 3.7%. (menareport.com)
