Employees of the Lebanese Electricity Corporation recently went on strike to protest a cut in company perks that were previously offered to them. In addition, employees of various other independent associations, including water and transportation, decided to join the strikers’ protest as a sign of support, reports Al-Hayat daily.

The strike follows the cancellation of certain employee incentives, specifically, reduced electricity fees paid by these workers.

Employees claim that the new measures will reduce their real salaries by as much as 20 to 30 percent.

Previously, company personnel paid only two kershes per kilowatt of electricity, compared to 35 Lebanese pounds ($.23) paid by regular citizens. –(MENA Report)
