The Governor of the Emirates Central Bank, Sultan Bin Nasser Al-Suweidy, predicts operating national and foreign banks in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to record profits in 2002 similar to those achieved in 2000, reported Al-Hayat. In 2000, operating banks recorded profits of 4.5 billion Emirati Dinars ($1.2 billion), a 15-20 percent growth compared with the previous year of 1999. — (menareport.com)
