The value of exchanges between the UAE and Japan expanded remarkably last year, reaching $17.4 billion (Dh 63.86 billion) in 2000, according to Al-Bayan daily.
This figure reflects a 53 percent rise compared with 1999, in which these exchanges totaled only $11.4 billion (Dh 41.84 billion). A report published by the Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO) attributed this climb to increased quantities of UAE oil imported to Japan.
The trade balance between Japan and the UAE reflects a $12.3 billion surplus in 2000, and a $6.3 billion in 1999 in favor of the UAE. –(MENA Report)
