In a recent meeting with the heads of Egypt’s electricity companies, the Minister of Electricity and Energy Ali Al-Saidy, announced that local networks are prepared to meet the rising demand anticipated with the opening of the academic year, reported Al-Ahram.
With 17.5 million students commencing study this year, Egypt’s electricity sector was recently required to execute maintenance and protection measures to ensure a stable source of power through local electricity stations, networks and converters. Demand usually grows by an average 10 percent with the beginning of each academic year.
The generation capacity of local stations is estimated at 113 billion kilowatts per hour, whereas the overall domestic energy consumption stands at 77 billion kilowatts/hour. In addition to meeting domestic demand, the united electricity network supplies power Libya, Syria and Jordan. — (Mena Report)
