Eight Egyptian exporters are currently negotiating contracts with international shipping firms, for the transport of agricultural goods destined for European markets during the upcoming winter season.

Egyptian exporters of tomatoes and potatoes are considering sea shipment as an alternative to the regular air transport route, following instability in the aviation industry since the September 11 hijackings in the United States.

Local exporters fear that if they do not switch their method of transportation for the winter, their produce will not reach its destination on time. Since mid-September, Egyptian agricultural exports fell by 10 percent because of poor mobility, according to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat. — (menareport.com)
