Egypt’s fast growing population reached 69.2 million at 2002-end, representing 1.9 percent annual growth over the 2001 figures. The nation’s labor force constitutes 29 percent of that total, at 510,000 in 2002, according to the state-run statistics agency CAPMAS.
The official unemployment rate in the recession-hit country was raised to 18 percent earlier this year, but analysts say the real figure is probably much higher, around 25 percent, with the vast majority of the jobless have university degrees. — (menareport.com)
