Egyptian and Palestinian businessmen set up a joint chamber of commerce in Cairo Saturday, August 25, to counter the closure by Israel of a Palestinian chamber of commerce in Jerusalem, they told reporters.

President of the Egyptian chambers of commerce Khalid Abu Ismail accused Israel of trying to "control the Palestinian market" and told reporters establishing the joint trade body was "a firm response to Israel's closure of the Palestinian chamber of commerce in Jerusalem."

The newly formed joint chamber will study ways of stopping Israeli products from reaching Arab countries, he said. Egypt shares a border with the Palestinian Gaza Strip. ― (AFP, Cairo)
