The Director General of the International Center for Agricultural Research in Arid Lands, Adel Baltajeh, said that Egypt managed to narrow the local food supply gap from 26 million tons in 1982 to 4.5 million tons in 2000 despite the rapidly growing population, reported Al-Hayat . Baltajeh added that Egypt had targeted an optimal economic equilibrium in crop production in the past few years. — (menareport.com)
