During the first half of the year 2001, Egypt exported $12.5 million worth of goods to Romania. This constitutes a 54 percent increase compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, a study published by the Egyptian Economy and Foreign Commerce Ministry revealed.
During the year 2000 as a whole, goods totaling $17 million were exported to Romania from Egypt, dropping 50 percent from 1999, when exports stood at $34 million. Imports from Romanian totaled $171 million throughout the year 2000. Thus, total bilateral exchanges were valued at $188 million last year, according to the study.
Egyptian exports to Romania consist primarily of agricultural items, such as grains and vegetables, followed by pharmaceutical and textile related items. Romania exports to Egypt mainly livestock, wood, cars and tractors. — (Mena Report)
